4D3N Experience Kuching Wetland with Longhouse Tour
Itinerary
Day 01: Airport - Kopitiam - Kuching Wetland Cruise
Airport pick up and we go for popular local meal ( Sarawak laksa/ kolo mee, self pay) . Then we check in hotel.
At 4pm. We will direct go to jetty for the cruise for our wetland tour, to see fireflies and dolphins. This tour takes you in a boat down the Santubong river, past the majestic Mount Santubong and its historical sites, into the bay, where pods of dolphins are found. Sightings can never be guaranteed, but the probability to see dolphins is quite high, because they are around throughout the year. The boat then heads to the western side of the bay into the Kuching Wetlands National Park, Sarawak’s only Ramsar Site. Ramsar sites are wetlands of exceptional global value that are designated for protection. Here you can watch Proboscis Monkeys and Silvered Leaf Monkeys come to the water’s edge, and if you’re lucky, giant crocodiles too. Highlights are the dolphins and a very different perspective of Mount Santubong, as early sailors would have seen it from the sea. The tour includes transfers by air-conditioned vans to the boat jetty and back. As the light fades you will be able to see fireflies. Light refreshments will be provided. You will return to the boat club around 8 pm, and then proceed to head back to Hotel.
Day 02 : Depart to Nanga Ukom Longhouse (B, L, D)
Today we depart for Batang Ai passing through scenic countryside consisting of quaint little towns, villages, padi fields, pepper and oil palm plantations interspersed with secondary and virgin jungle as the road starts to wind and undulate as you go deeper into the interior with a short stopover at Serian Town. The 2 nd Stopover will be for lunch at Lachau, a small town on the way to the resort. Arrive at Batang Ai Hydro Lake. The journey will take you across the lake into the Engkari River, one of the many tributaries flowing into the lake. The journey will take approximately 37 minutes before reaching Ukom Longhouse nestled on a hill beside the river. Check in to your dormitory styled accommodation and explore the longhouse at your own pace while discovering its people and its surroundings. Later in the evening, you are required to prepare one of the popular dishes called “Manok Pansoh” (Bamboo Chicken). Whether or not your Chicken cooked in Bamboo turns out right depends on you as you are also to learn the technique of turning the bamboo from time to time at our specially built fireplace. After dinner join the longhouse residents for a glass or two of tuak (rice wine) and a short cultural performance. The Iban are a fun-loving people, and visitors are expected to join in whatever activities are going on at the Longhouse! Overnight in the guesthouse. Overnight in the longhouse dormitory style accommodation build for visitors. (B, L, D)
Day 03: Longhouse - Kuching (B, L)
After breakfast gather for a blowpipe demonstration and try shooting one of these lethal darts. Return back to Kuching via the same route. Lunch serve en-route. Then check in back at hotel. Free for the rest of the day. In evening, we will send you for seafood dinner ( self pay) and pick you up again after dinner. (B, L)
Day 04: Airport (B)
Today, we are free after breakfasts and then check out to leave for airport for flight home. (B)
